Tennessee’s insurance complaint desk is public, free to file, and run by the Department of Commerce and Insurance’s Consumer Insurance Services section. If a claim is denied, delayed, or stuck in a settlement fight—and the policy was written in Tennessee—you can file online or by mail. TDCI’s July 30, 2026 back-to-school tips release states that in 2025, over $15.67 million was returned to Tennesseans through these mediation efforts.

Who can file a TDCI insurance complaint?
TDCI’s File an Insurance Complaint page says consumers who believe they have been wrongfully denied a claim by their insurance company, or who have another issue with their insurance agent or company, can file. The insurance policy must have been written in Tennessee. Third-party consumers who have an issue with another consumer’s insurance should call the numbers below for options under Tennessee Rule 0780–01-05-.12.

What does TDCI mediation mean?
Consumer Insurance Services educates consumers and mediates insurance-related disputes. Investigators are trained to determine whether the company and/or producer is acting in accordance with Tennessee laws, rules, and regulations. TDCI’s Fern release describes mediation as investigators communicating with insurers to help get wrongfully denied claims overturned and paid.
How much did TDCI say was returned to Tennesseans through complaint efforts in 2025?
The July 30, 2026 back-to-school insurance tips release states that in 2025, over $15.67 million was returned to Tennesseans through these efforts. That is TDCI’s published figure for that year—not a forecast for your file.
Does filing a complaint guarantee my claim will be paid?
No. Mediation is a process. Outcomes depend on the policy language, the claim facts, and Tennessee law. Do not treat a form confirmation as a check in the mail.
What should I gather before I file?
Policy number, company name, agent name, claim number, denial or delay letters, photos or video, and a dated call log. TDCI’s Winter Storm Fern tips make the same documentation point on the claim side: partial information causes delay.
