Tennessee’s Bureau of Workers’ Compensation has scheduled its next Medical Payment Committee meeting for Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Central. The meeting is open to the public, in person in Nashville and online through Cisco Webex.

Most employers never deal with this committee directly. It still matters, because it sits at the point where workers’ comp medical care turns into money: the bills that providers send and the payments that insurers make.

What the Medical Payment Committee does

According to the department’s notice, the committee hears disputes on medical bill payments between providers and insurers. It also advises the Bureau’s administrator on the medical fee schedule and on medical care cost containment in the workers’ compensation system.

The committee has seven voting members appointed by the administrator. Three represent the medical provider industry, three represent the workers’ compensation insurance industry, and the medical director is the seventh member.

Why employers should pay attention

Medical bills are part of what a workers’ comp claim costs, and claim costs feed into what employers pay over time. Rules about how medical bills are priced and paid flow through to the system that sets loss costs and, eventually, premiums. For background on recent Tennessee changes, see Tennessee’s Workers Comp Medical Fee Schedule Reset April 1 — 31 Days After the 2% Loss-Cost Cut and Tennessee approved a 4.8% workers' compensation rate increase effective October 1, 2026.

For an injured employee, billing disputes between a provider and an insurer generally happen behind the scenes. Employers can help by reporting injuries promptly, keeping their own records organized, and making sure their coverage is in force. If you are not sure your policy is active, start with TDCI’s workers’ comp page says verify coverage online — a certificate may not warn you of cancellation.

How to take part

The chair takes public comments during the meeting by verbal request, by a raised hand in person or online, or through Webex chat. The notice says requests to comment may also be sent ahead of time by email or by calling 615-532-1325 at least one business day before the meeting. The chair may limit the length and relevance of comments.

Other numbers Tennessee employers should know

Benefit levels also changed this year for injured workers. See Tennessee raised its workers’ comp weekly benefit caps for injuries on or after July 1, 2026.
