The Insurance Division of the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance provides a Lost Policy Service to Tennessee residents and their families, or individuals affected by a policy issued in Tennessee, to help them identify individual/group life insurance policies or annuity contracts of a deceased policyholder.

On the same Life Insurance and Annuities Information page, TDCI explains that a Life Insurance Policy Locator request may be submitted with the NAIC by a person who believes they are a beneficiary of a policy issued in Tennessee, or by an executor or legally authorized representative of a deceased individual who may have lived in Tennessee when a policy was issued or an annuity was purchased. The page also links a Consumer Guide for Life Insurance and a Consumer Guide for Deferred Annuities.

Those tools help families document whether a life or annuity contract exists. They do not replace a personal lines review of homeowners, condo, flood, or auto coverage after a move or a claim.

Seasons change. So should your coverage. For a free personal policy review, call 865-263-1400 or visit asigtn.com/get-a-quote/.

What is TDCI’s Lost Policy Service?

The Insurance Division of the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance provides a Lost Policy Service to Tennessee residents and their families, or individuals affected by a policy issued in Tennessee, to help them identify individual/group life insurance policies or annuity contracts of a deceased policyholder.

Who can submit a life-policy locator request with the NAIC?

TDCI’s Life Insurance Policy Locator section states a request may be submitted with the NAIC by an individual who believes they are a beneficiary of a policy issued in Tennessee, or by an executor or legally authorized representative of a deceased individual who may have lived in Tennessee when a policy was issued or an annuity was purchased.

Is the Lost Policy Service the same as shopping for a new life policy?

No. The service helps identify existing individual/group life insurance policies or annuity contracts of a deceased policyholder. It is not a new-policy application and not a coverage promise.

What consumer guides does TDCI link on the same page?

The Life Insurance and Annuities Information page links a Consumer Guide for Life Insurance and a Consumer Guide for Deferred Annuities as external PDFs.

Where does the NAIC send locator search information?

TDCI states the information submitted with the Division and/or the NAIC will be distributed to all licensed life insurance companies.

Does finding a policy through a locator change my homeowners or auto coverage?

No. Life and annuity locator tools are separate from property and casualty policies. Ask a licensed producer if you need a personal lines review after estate paperwork settles.

How does this relate to Life Insurance Awareness Month messaging?

TDCI’s consumer life page is a year-round resource for lost-policy help and consumer guides. Awareness-month tips about beneficiaries are complementary — this article focuses on the Lost Policy Service wording on the life-info page.
